When I arrived at Movara Fitness Resort in Ivins, Utah, I wasn’t just checking into a wellness retreat — I was making a promise to myself. As a health and wellness coach, I’ve spent years encouraging others to prioritize their wellbeing, but somewhere along the way, I stopped doing the same for myself. I came here because I wanted to feel better — physically, mentally, and emotionally — and to reconnect with the version of me who truly walks the talk.

Both of my parents passed away from diabetes, and losing them changed me forever. Their struggles became my biggest fear — that I might one day face the same fate if I didn’t take control of my health. I didn’t want that to be my story. So I came to Movara determined to break the cycle.

Day One: Showing Up When It’s Hard

The first day was brutal. The hike challenged me more than I expected, and there were moments I wanted to quit. My body ached, my mind doubted, but I kept moving. I showed up for every class — boot camp, stretch, and everything in between. When I crossed that finish line at the end of the hike, I realized something powerful: I can do hard things.

Days Two to Four: Breaking Through the Mental Barriers

By midweek, my body started to adjust, but the real battle was mental. The early mornings, the clean eating, the constant movement — it all forced me to face the habits and excuses that had been holding me back. I learned that transformation isn’t just about losing weight or gaining strength; it’s about letting go of the stories we tell ourselves about what we can’t do.

Each day, I felt a little stronger, a little more confident, and a lot more connected to my “why.”

Days Five to Seven: Finding Strength in Community

One of the most beautiful parts of Movara was the people. Everyone here is on their own journey, but we share the same goal — to become better versions of ourselves. The encouragement, laughter, and shared struggle created a sense of community that lifted me up when I needed it most.

By the final day, I wasn’t just proud of how far I’d come physically — I was proud of the mindset shift that had taken place. I no longer saw exercise as punishment or food as the enemy. I saw them as tools to help me live fully and honor the life my parents didn’t get to continue.

What I’m Taking Home

This week reminded me that wellness isn’t about perfection — it’s about consistency, compassion, and courage. I’m leaving Movara stronger, more grounded, and deeply committed to continuing this journey long after I return home.

I came here wanting to feel better about myself, and I’m leaving with something even more powerful — belief in myself.
